HLC Primary success in Jaguar Challenge
A team of four talented young engineers from Telford have successfully won the regional finals of the Jaguar Primary School Challenge.

The competition is run by Jaguar Landrover, which involves pupil using their Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) skills to design and build a custom race car.
Year 6 pupils Amalie Agyeman, Sophie Kapalo, Freya-Louise Child and Sophie Nuhu from Hadley Learning Community Primary - known by their team name ‘The STEM Gems’ - are now looking forward to representing Shropshire at the National Finals on June 11th.
The girls had to also show off their engineering knowledge by giving an eight-minute presentation to the judging panel, convincing them that their design was well engineered and aerodynamic. They then raced their car against other local teams, achieving the fastest time of the day. Throughout the day, the judges awarded points for specific criteria, such as technical specification, speed and design.
In order to raise funds to allow them to compete, the eleven-year-olds secured sponsorship from local businessman Trevor Wakefield, director of Shrewsbury-based Green Sustainable Products Company. They use their funds to buy team outfits and design their ‘pit area’ where they displayed the work they had put in to develop their race car.
Mr Wakefield said, “I am incredibly proud to be involved in this competition by supporting the STEM Gems - it is lovely to see young people so engaged in engineering.”
The National Finals will be held at the British Motor Museum in Gaydon, Warwickshire.
