Man arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following knife incident in Telford

The 60-year old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody.

Officers were called to Hadley Road at around 6.15am, a woman in her 40s was taken to hospital, her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A second person, a man, was also taken to hospital, his injuries are also not believed to be life-threatening

Officers cordoned off a section of Hadley Road as part of their investigation into the incident and stepped up patrols. Assistance from the National Police Air Service was given to help locate the then wanted man.

Police said they understood there had been some indication that local schools were on lockdown for a time, however, they did not understand that to be the case and at no point was there any intelligence to suggest schools would need to take any action.

Telford policing commander Superintendent Paul Moxley said: “We can confirm a man has now been arrested and is in police custody. We understand this incident caused some disruption this morning, in particular during rush hour and would like to thank the local community for the patience and understanding as we dealt with the incident.”

Any witnesses, including any motorists with a dashcam, are asked to contact West Mercia Police Police on 101 quoting reference 70s 141019 or alternatively information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
