Shropshire's Remembrance Sunday services go virtual
Residents across Shropshire are being encouraged to commemorate this year’s Remembrance Sunday from their own doorstep, as a collective tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

With England now being in another national lockdown commemorative events for Remembrance Sunday have been cancelled or scaled back with residents being urged to pay their respects by taking part in the national two minutes’ silence in their homes or on their own doorsteps at 11am.
Dean Carroll, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for adult social care, public health and climate change, said:
“We know we cannot let the pandemic prevent us from commemorating this year’s Remembrance Sunday, but we must also ensure that we are doing so in a way that prioritises safety.
“We can still all play a part to ensure we make the occasion appropriately and pay tribute to the servicemen and servicewomen who laid down their lives for our country.
“That’s why we’re encouraging people to look at the alternative ways to commemorate and take part in a collective act of remembrance, by observing the two minutes’ silence at 11am in their homes or on their doorsteps.”
Services streamed online
Many local remembrance services and wreath-laying ceremonies are being streamed online.
In Shrewsbury, a brief and thoughtful act of remembrance is being led by Mother Yejide Peters from St Chads Church and RAF Shawbury Reverend Padre Wing Commander Alastair Bissell, ahead of the Bugler sounding Last Post and a 2-minute silence at 11am will be streamed via Shrewsbury Town Council's Facebook page and online from 10.45am.
In Ludlow, a Remembrance Service has been pre-filmed St Laurence's by Wild Edric Media and will be streamed on Facebook starting at 10.50am. The broadcast can also be seen on the Church's website.
Wellington Town Council has commissioned a video montage for residents to watch from the safety of home. Those wishing to watch are asked to begin watching the recording at 10.38am to be in sync with the two minute silence at 11.00am.
