Fire crews have tackled a fire involving the roof space of Meadowbrook Care Home in Gobowen overnight.

Fire crews tackle fire at care home near Oswestry

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 3.35am to reports of a fire at the care home.

Crews from Ellesmere, Oswestry, Shrewsbury and Tweedale attended and found the fire was in the roof space of the building.

All residents and staff were safe and accounted for and firefighters began tackling the blaze and safely evacuating the premises.

Firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used hose reel jets, a main jet, covering jet and dry powder extinguisher to tackle the fire.

Firefighters were assisted at the scene by the ambulance service, police and North Wales Fire Service.

The fire was under control by 7am and a fire investigation is now underway to determine the cause of the incident.

Meadowbrook Care Home

A Meadowbrook Care Home spokesperson said: “We are relieved that all residents and staff are safe, well and unharmed. The fire was contained in one area and all necessary protocols were followed and the emergency services were called.

"They arrived promptly and all residents and staff were safely evacuated. Residents are now comfortably housed in another area of the home and interim arrangements for placement in neighbouring care homes is being worked up.

"Our huge thanks go to the Shropshire fire service for their swift action and we will work closely with the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Our immediate priority remains the wellbeing of all our residents and staff.”
