An 8-year-old from Shropshire has raised £1700 for Cerebral Palsy Sport by climbing the Wrekin.

Superstar Oscar raises £1700 for Cerebral Palsy Sport

Oscar Smith was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of 2 and despite mobility challenges, he is an active and inspirational young boy with a profound love of sports, particularly football.

His Dad, Liam Smith, explained more: “Oscar set the ambitious goal of climbing Wrekin Hill himself. His energy to succeed, raise money and inspire others living with cerebral palsy is testament to his determined nature and we’re extremely proud of him for raising over £1700 for his walk.”

It is a challenge which has captured the hearts of the local community and has seen Oscar smash his initial fundraising target of £250. One of Oscar’s biggest supporters has been local DAF Trucks dealer group Greenhous Commercials, where Liam Smith works as Service Manager at the Shrewsbury site.

To support Oscar's cause, Greenhous Commercials organised a Kings Coronation themed bake sale that successfully raised £150, with colleagues at the dealership contributing an additional £550 towards Oscar's sponsored walk to the summit of Wrekin Hill.

Greenhous Commercials Dealer Principal John Turley commented: "Firstly, we want to say a huge well done to Oscar on his incredible fundraising achievement. When heard about Oscar’s challenge of climbing Wrekin Hill in aid of Cerebral Palsy Sport we knew we wanted to help and we’re delighted we could play our part in supporting his fundraising.

Cerebral Palsy Sport is a national disability sports organisation provides physical activities for children, young people, and adults across the UK diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
