Shropshire leisure centres to host Big Open Weekend

Shropshire Community Leisure Trust’s Big Open Weekend event will be held at three leisure centres this Saturday and Sunday – two days of free and discounted sport, fitness and fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Activities will include free gym inductions, fitness taster sessions, swimming lessons, discounted roller disco, Box12, soft play, gymnastics and more.

The three centres taking part over the two days are Owestry Leisure Centre, Shrewsbury Sports Village and Market Drayton Swimming and Fitness Centre.

Rhys Collins, Partnership Manager for the Shropshire Community Leisure Trust said:

“The Big Open Weekend is back! All our leisure centres across Shropshire are offering a whole host of free and discounted sport, fun and fitness sessions for the whole community to enjoy.

“Many local families are struggling right now, as the cost-of-living crisis continues to bite, so why not visit one of our centres for a weekend of active fun that won’t break the bank.

“Our websites have a full list of what’s on offer at each centre. Some stuff you can just roll up and try, while other sessions you need to book. We look forward to seeing you for our Big Open Weekend!”

Robert Macey, Shropshire Council Cabinet member for culture and digital, said: “I am delighted to hear the Big Open Weekend is returning. It was such a massive success last time as a large number of people signed-up to continue to enjoy the fantastic range of leisure and fitness facilities that are on offer through our sites.”

“Shropshire Council prioritises the health and wellbeing of residents and we are pleased to have these facilities open to all who want to use them.” Shropshire Community Leisure Trust operates four centres in partnership with Serco Leisure and on behalf of Shropshire Council.
