Award-winning and terroir-led Wild Shropshire Restaurant in Whitchurch, has been listed for the first time in the 360 Eat Guide for 2024, receiving two circles for sustainability.

Wild Shropshire Restaurant debuts in 360 Eat Guide

They are the only restaurant in Shropshire and one of only three in the West Midlands to feature in this guide for 2024.  Additionally, they have also been shortlisted in the Sustainability Category of the National Restaurant Awards organised by industry-leading Restaurant Magazine.

The winners will be announced on Monday 10th June 2024 at Magazine in London’s Docklands.

Wild Shropshire were awarded a rating of 81-85P with two circles and described as ‘Ambitious, consistent and purposeful.’  They are one of only fourteen restaurants outside London to have been listed and receive the two circles award or above, with only four restaurants nationwide achieving the three circles distinction.

On being awarded two circles in the 360 Eat Guide, they said that Wild Shropshire Restaurant was:

“Very ambitious in several areas of sustainability – environment, social, and economic. The sustainability efforts are serious and long-term. Ambitions are communicated both internally towards employees and externally towards guests and suppliers.”

On hearing this recent news, founder, chef and owner, James Sherwin, said: “The whole team are absolutely delighted to have been included in the 360 Eat Guide for 2024. It was a rigorous process to be selected including a three hour interview from the 360 team. We're one of only 17 restaurants awarded at the 2 circle level which proves that we are delivering on our ambition of offering sustainable, great tasting gastronomy in North Shropshire.”

The European based, 360 East Guide, describe themselves as the first guide to look beyond the plate, considering both the gastronomic experience and sustainability of what’s served. They aspire to award the pioneers and ground-breakers of modern, transparent gastronomy, bringing to light those caring for our climate and respecting our planet. Equally important, those acknowledging the people behind it all, farmers, suppliers, and coworkers.

Gastronomic points (0-100P) given to each restaurant to represent the levels of gastronomy experienced during the restaurant visits. The points represent the quality of what is served – presentation, flavour, composition, texture, savoir-faire, seasonality – along with service, knowledge, and environment. The circles 1-3 represent sustainability, with the higher number of circles representing a deeper commitment to sustainability.

Wild Shropshire has also been shortlisted in the Sustainability Category of this year’s National Restaurant Awards.

The awards, described as ‘the definitive guide to the UK's best restaurants’ are the largest annual gathering of top chefs and restaurateurs in the UK. In 2023 over 500 people from across the UK restaurant industry gathered for a special evening of celebrations and networking.

On being shortlisted in this award James Sherwin, said: "We are delighted to be shortlisted once again for this prestigious award celebrating sustainability. Wild Shropshire restaurant is centred around nature and the changing seasons.

"We take pride in offering a menu that is deeply rooted in Shropshire, showcasing micro-seasonal ingredients influenced by the unique climate, soil, and environment of the region. This approach reflects our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and fostering a more sustainable planet. Being recognized for our achievements in these areas is truly rewarding."
