Urgent works to take place on retaining wall following collision in Shrewsbury
Urgent works are to take place in Shrewsbury after a recent road traffic collision on Coton Hill damaged a retaining wall, posing a risk of collapse into the road.

Shropshire Council says to ensure public safety, urgent repair work will commence on Monday 12 August and continue until Friday 16 August.
To facilitate these repairs, temporary traffic lights will be in operation on Coton Hill, with the permanent lights at the Coton Hill/Berwick Road junction temporarily switched off.
A traffic management team will be on site from 7am to 7pm to monitor traffic flow and adjust the temporary lights as needed.
Shropshire Council says it understands that traffic congestion is already an issue in the area due to ongoing improvement works. To alleviate this, measures have been implemented to ease congestion at the Chester Street/Cross Street junction and outside the railway station.
To minimise disruption, motorists are being advised to use alternative routes such as the A49/A5 bypass, Telford Way, Robertson Way, or Bage Way when travelling into Shrewsbury from the north.
Councillor Dan Morris, Shropshire Council’s Cabinet member for highways said:
“We apologise for any inconvenience and disruption that these urgent works may cause, but they are essential to ensure the safety of the public and the stability of the wall.
“We are working closely with the contractor to minimise the impact of the works and we appreciate the patience and cooperation of road users and residents.
“We want to remind everyone that Shrewsbury is still open for business and there are plenty of ways to access the town centre, such as using the alternative routes, Park & Ride service, walking and cycling.”
