New cameras to target speeding motorists on Telford's roads
Local policing teams in Telford are set to receive a boost in their fight against speeding with the introduction of new speed enforcement cameras.

These state-of-the-art TruCamII devices will be deployed in areas of concern to help reduce road accidents and improve safety.
In the past three years, 20 people have tragically lost their lives on Shropshire's roads due to speeding, and 123 others have suffered serious injuries.
The new cameras, funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner, aim to address this issue by enabling officers to quickly identify and prosecute speeding motorists.
Sgt Ian Cole, Madeley Safer Neighbourhood Team, West Mercia Police said:
“These cameras will play an important part in ensuring that all our local policing teams have the latest technology available in order to tackle speeding. There are many families that unfortunately know far too well the devastating consequences that speeding and collisions can lead to.
"Reducing the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads in Telford is our priority and reducing the speed that people travel is a key part of this. These cameras use the latest technology and will allow us to address speeding in areas of greatest concern so we welcome their introduction”.
Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion says:
“It’s a sad fact that too many people are being killed or seriously injured on our roads, that’s why there is a focus on reducing the harm caused at the heart of my Safer Communities Plan. I speak regularly to residents in Shropshire who are rightly concerned about speeding and anti-social driving in their community.
"That’s why I have funded the latest camera equipment to support the local policing team improve road safety by carrying out effective and efficient enforcement activity.”
Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, Councillor Richard Overton said:
“Even a single life endangered or lost to dangerous driving is one too many and technology such as this will help make the roads in Telford and Wrekin safer.
"We are pleased to support the police force in being as effective as they can be with one of the most advanced speed cameras around, allowing for quicker and clearer identification of people committing offences. Using cutting edge technology will ensure our front line services are one step ahead.”
The introduction of these new cameras is expected to have a significant impact on road safety, helping to reduce accidents and save lives.
