Reward scheme launched to tackle dog fouling in Telford and Wrekin
People who report dog walkers who do not clean up after their pets are to be given a £50 reward if a fine is issued by council wardens, in a pilot scheme by Telford & Wrekin Council.

The figure represents half of the fixed penalty notice issued and the initiative aims to encourage community engagement in maintaining the cleanliness of public spaces and to promote responsible dog ownership.
Telford & Wrekin Council says it is committed to tackling dog fouling and relies on the help of residents to report incidents and provide evidence, such as CCTV footage, photos, or witness statements. Digital evidence has proven invaluable in helping to identify offenders and secure penalties.
Councillor Richard Overton, (Lab) Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement said: “We know there are a few people wo persistently allow their dogs to foul in certain areas.
“This reward scheme empowers the community to act and help us tackle this issue effectively. By working together, we can ensure our parks and streets remain clean and enjoyable for everyone.”
To report an incident, residents should provide as many details as possible including location, time and a description of the dog and its owner. Reports of dog fouling incidents and evidence can be shared via the MyTelford app or the Telford & Wrekin Watch confidential hotline – 01952 388 800.
The Council says that all information will be treated confidentially, and those who provide evidence leading to a successful prosecution will be eligible for the £50 reward.
Residents are reminded of the importance of cleaning up after their dogs. Failure to do so can result in a fixed penalty notice of £100, reduced to £50 if paid within 14 days.
