Two arrested after wheelie bins are thrown from Telford bridge

A 19-year-old man and 16-year-old boy have been arrested in Telford on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm in relation to wheelie bins being thrown from the Wombridge footbridge over the A442.
The first incident happened on Monday, January 27, at around 1.50am, as a car was travelling on the northbound carriageway. The wheelie bin struck the vehicle, causing extensive damage to the windscreen and two people requiring hospital treatment.
A second incident, believed to be linked, happened at around 1am on Friday 31 January when a wheelie bin was dropped off the same bridge striking a HGV. The driver of the HGV was unhurt.
Detective Inspector Paul Drury said: “I would like to thank the public for their help which has led to two people being arrested in connection with these incidents. Both remain in police custody as we continue our enquiries."
Speaking yesterday before the arrests were made Detective Inspector Drury said: "This sort of behaviour is reckless, and not only can it cause serious damage to vehicles, but even more worryingly, it can result in serious injury to those travelling in the vehicle and potentially cause a devastating collision. Fortunately, on these two occasions, no one sustained any serious or life-threatening injuries."
