Telford & Wrekin Council welcomes new funding to support the homeless

An extra £500,000 has been provided for 2025/26 which will help the Council continue supporting those who are most vulnerable - providing advice and support to either prevent people becoming homeless or help them find move on accommodation.

Already this year, the Council’s Housing Solutions Team have prevented over 300 people from becoming homeless and found move on accommodation for over 460 and this additional funding will help to continue this vital work.

In addition, the recently announced additional £19,706 winter pressure funding for the borough will ensure that those who are rough sleeping have access to emergency accommodation during the coldest weather.

This is further supported by existing Government investment through the Rough Sleeping and Ex-Offender Accommodation Fund.

The fund is being used locally to provide dedicated support through the Council and local partners to those most vulnerable who are faced with no option but rough sleeping.

Councillor Richard Overton (Lab), Telford & Wrekin Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing and Enforcement, said: “With the increase in those presenting as homeless in the borough, including families, we welcome the additional funding provided by Government.

“We are committed to tackling homelessness recognising the impact it has on individuals, families and communities. “
