Emergency crews scramble to Brown Moss after dogs fall through ice

Fire crews were called to Brown Moss on Saturday afternoon after two dogs became trapped in the lake when the ice beneath them gave way.
Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service received an emergency call at 12.34 pm, categorising the incident as a specialist water rescue. Due to the high risk associated with frozen water, a significant response was dispatched to the scene near Whitchurch.
Four fire appliances were mobilised, including the specialist Rescue Tender and a Water Rescue Unit. The crews were drawn from across the county, with teams attending from Prees, Shrewsbury, Wellington, and Wem. An Operations Officer was also on hand to oversee the technical aspects of the potential rescue.
Fortunately, the drama concluded safely before the emergency teams were required to enter the water. Upon the arrival of the fire crews, it was discovered that both dogs were already safely out of the lake.
The incident was brought to an official close at 1.02 pm, less than half an hour after the initial alarm was raised.
The scale of the emergency response serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by frozen lakes and ponds during the winter months.
