West Mercia Police have issued an update following a serious collision in Ellesmere, confirming that a pedestrian has sustained life-changing injuries.

Police renew appeal following serious collision in Ellesmere

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 24 January, on Elson Road. Emergency services were called at approximately 2 am after a man in his 40s was discovered lying in the middle of the road.

New evidence from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit now suggests the man was struck by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene between 12.40 am and 1.50 am.

Investigation Update

The victim, who is believed to have been walking home from a local pub, remains in hospital in Stoke-on-Trent. Following house-to-house enquiries and CCTV reviews, officers have narrowed down the timeframe and are now looking for specific witnesses.

Police are particularly interested in identifying:

Vehicles with fresh damage: Any car showing collision damage consistent with a pedestrian strike.

Suspicious Activity: Information regarding any vehicles seen acting suspiciously in the Elson Road or B5068 areas during the early hours of Saturday.

Dashcam Footage: Anyone who may have captured the pedestrian walking from the Ellesmere Hotel towards Eastwick along the B5068 between 12.40 am and 1.50 am.

Information Sought

DC Helen Cooper, who is leading the investigation, is urging anyone with information to come forward.

"We are appealing for information about any vehicles seen acting suspiciously in the area at the time, or any vehicle that may have collision damage consistent with being involved in this incident.

"Anyone with information or footage is asked to contact DC Cooper by emailing helen.cooper@westmercia.police.uk. Alternatively, information can be provided to the Serious Collision Investigation Unit by emailing SCIUNorth@westmercia.police.uk.

"Please quote incident reference number 35i of 24 January when contacting us."
