Changes to vet sector hailed as great news for pet lovers
The biggest vet sector reforms in 60 years will save families money and bring greater transparency to the costs of veterinary care, says a Shropshire MP.

“As an animal lover and rescue dog owner myself, I’m delighted to welcome the Government’s introduction of big new changes that’ll benefit millions of pet owners,” said Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley.
“These changes will not only make vet care clearer, fairer and more transparent for pet owners, but will also help bring down costs over time – which will especially help people struggling with the cost of living.
Mrs Buckley said that, under the new rules, vets will have to publish clear price lists for common treatments, so owners know what they’ll pay before they book. Also, practices must be open about who owns them, helping people understand whether they’re using an independent vet or part of a national chain.
“In addition to this, stronger complaints processes will give owners a clearer route to raise concerns if something goes wrong.
“Every practice will need an official operating licence, raising standards and giving families greater confidence in the care their pets receive.
“And more trained professionals will be able to carry out routine procedures, improving access and reducing delays.
“It’s great news for pet owners.
“As we all know, owning a pet can have a massively positive impact on your mental health and your blood pressure, so anything that can encourage pet ownership has to be a good thing.”
