Wrekin MP calls for more films and TV programmes to be filmed in Shropshire

Wrekin MP, Mark Pritchard, has called on Creative UK and Filming in England to encourage more films and TV programmes to be filmed in Shropshire, and wants local councils to take a more active role in promoting the county as a filming location.
In a Parliamentary question, Mark asked the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if she would have discussions with Creative England about producing more television programmes and films in Shropshire.
In response, the Minister for Media, Tourism and Creative Industries, Ian Murray MP, said the government's Creative Industries Sector Plan, published in June 2025, announced a £75 million Screen Growth Package which includes dedicated funding for Production Support Services across England's regions outside London.
The Minister added that Filming in England, part of Creative UK, is currently funded by BFI National Lottery funds to provide advocacy and assistance to emerging hubs such as Shropshire.
Commenting, Mark Pritchard said: "Filming in England and Creative UK appear to have forgotten about Shropshire.
"Shropshire is a fantastic location for filming TV programmes and films given its beauty and historic settings. Both councils in Shropshire need to be far more proactive in promoting Shropshire's film and TV opportunities".
