Shrewsbury's Prince Rupert Hotel on sale for offers over £6m
Shrewsbury's historic Prince Rupert Hotel has gone on the market as international real estate advisor Savills seeks offers in excess of £6 million.

The firm has been appointed to sell the part freehold and part long leasehold interest in what is widely considered the town’s premier hospitality landmark.
The Grade II* listed property boasts a rich heritage that dates back to the 17th century, when it served as the private residence of Prince Rupert, the grandson of King James I. This royal connection remains a cornerstone of the building's identity, though the interior has been thoroughly modernised through an extensive refurbishment programme in recent years.
Today, the hotel is arranged over the ground and three upper floors, offering 70 individually styled en-suite bedrooms that range from single occupancy rooms to expansive suites.
Beyond its accommodation, the Prince Rupert functions as a central social and business hub for the region. The site features two distinct restaurants providing a combined capacity for 180 diners, alongside a charming ground-floor tearoom that attracts local footfall.
Its reputation as a versatile venue is further bolstered by a comprehensive suite of meeting rooms, function spaces, and private dining facilities, making it a primary choice for both corporate conferences and private celebrations.
Tom Cunningham, UK Regional Director, Hotel Capital Markets, Savills Manchester, comments: “This historic hotel is a sought-after destination located right in the middle of the historic Shrewsbury town centre. The rooms are all individually styled and cover a range of sizes to suit different guests, from singles to suites.”
