Man arrested as part of north Shropshire murder investigation dies in hospital
Detectives investigating the death of an elderly woman in Prees Higher Heath have confirmed that the primary suspect in the case has died in hospital.

The investigation was launched on 27 January after 84-year-old Rita Rowley was discovered deceased at her home.
During the initial police response, an 80-year-old man was found at the same property suffering from life-threatening injuries. He was immediately arrested on suspicion of murder before being transported to hospital.
The man’s condition was described as critical from the moment he was admitted, and he remained under specialist care for over a fortnight.
West Mercia Police confirmed today, 16 February, that the suspect passed away on Friday, 13 February. His next of kin have been formally notified of his death.
In light of this development, the force has announced that both deaths have now been referred to the coroner for further examination.
Last week, the family of Rita Rowley released a moving tribute to her, and policehave continued to express their deepest sympathies to those affected by the double tragedy.
A spokesperson for the force stated that their thoughts remain firmly with the family and friends of both individuals during this exceptionally difficult period.
