Shrewsbury Town Council launches public consultation on future of Shorncliffe Recreation Ground
Shrewsbury residents are being invited to share their views on the future of Shorncliffe Recreation Ground, as Shrewsbury Town Council launches a public consultation.

Located to the west of the town and accessible from Shelton Road, Shorncliffe Recreation Ground is a well-used community space featuring a number of established amenities, including Shelton Bike Track, Shelton Community Woodland, a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and a full-size football pitch which is regularly used by SAHA Football Club.
Following earlier preparatory work announced in December, the Town Council has now worked with Shrewsbury-based architects Camlins to develop a series of interpretation boards designed to help residents consider how the site could evolve in the future. The boards will be displayed on site and will link directly to an online survey hosted on Shrewsbury Town Council’s website.
The consultation will ask residents for their views on:
- The park’s existing features and how they are currently used
- How green spaces can be protected and enhanced, making the most of nature
- Play and leisure facilities, and what activities people would like to see in the park
- Opportunities for community activities and events
- Accessibility, including entrances, parking and lighting, to help create a park that is welcoming and inclusive for everyone
As part of the consultation process, representatives from Camlins will host an open session at Shorncliffe Recreation Ground on Wednesday 25th February from 9am to 5pm, giving residents the opportunity to view the interpretation boards, discuss ideas and share feedback in person.
The consultation will close on Friday 13th March. The results will then be reviewed by the Town Council and Camlins, with key themes developed into proposals for a second round of engagement later in the year.
Paul Shirley Smith, Landscape Director at Camlins, said: “Shorncliffe Recreation Ground is already a valued community space with a strong recreational and environmental identity. This consultation is about listening carefully to local residents and understanding how the park can evolve in a way that enhances its green
spaces, supports play and sport, and improves accessibility. The interpretation boards are there to help people visualise possibilities and start meaningful conversations about the future of the site.”
Councillor Rob Wilson, Leader of Shrewsbury Town Council and ward member for Copthorne, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for residents to help shape the future of Shorncliffe Recreation Ground. We want to understand what people value most about the park, how it can better support recreation and wellbeing, and how we can ensure it is accessible and welcoming to everyone. I would encourage anyone who uses the park — or would like to in the future — to take part in the consultation and share their views.”
The full consultation is available on the Town Council website.
