Litter-picking clean-up of A442 underway

Telford and Wrekin Council is carrying out additional litter-picking along the A442 as part of its Pride in Our Community programme.
The work focuses on the central reservation and verges on one of the borough’s busiest routes. Traffic management, including rolling lane closures, is in place to ensure idverde crews can work safely while keeping disruption to motorists to a minimum. Motorists are advised to allow extra time for their journeys where needed.
Councillor Carolyn Healy, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Planning & Sustainability, said:
“Our crews are working hard to keep our borough clean and tidy. We have increased the number of times the A442 is cleansed due to the amount of litter that accumulates.”
“As always, we aim to keep disruption to motorists to a minimum and are grateful to motorists for their patience while clean-up takes place.”
Councillor Richard Overton, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Highways, Housing & Enforcement, added:
“Littering is a criminal offence under the Environmental Protection Act 1990, and our enforcement officers continue to act robustly on cases reported to us.
“Anyone seen throwing litter from a vehicle risks receiving a fixed penalty notice of £150, even if they were not the driver at the time.”
Residents and motorists are advised to plan journeys accordingly while rolling lane closures are in operation.
