Shropshire charity secures National Lottery boost to empower local groups
Community Resource has announced a significant funding award from The National Lottery Community Fund, marking a major milestone for the charity’s mission to support local initiatives.

Delivered through the Reaching Communities programme, this investment is set to transform the level of guidance, training, and practical assistance available to community groups and charities across Shropshire, Telford, and Wrekin.
The funding arrives at a critical time for the region's voluntary sector. Local organisations frequently perform vital work on the front lines, often powered by dedicated volunteers and limited staff. However, these groups face a mounting array of hurdles, from navigating complex funding applications and reporting requirements to managing governance and recruitment in an increasingly demanding landscape.
Community Resource intends to use this new support to act as a bridge, helping these groups overcome such challenges and move toward long-term sustainability.
Particular focus will be placed on the smaller, grassroots organisations that form the backbone of the county. This includes volunteer-led groups in isolated rural areas, neighbourhood projects operating on shoestring budgets, and charities struggling to keep pace with rising demand for their services. By providing hands-on support, Community Resource aims to ensure these local heroes feel confident and prepared as they grow.
As the only organisation in the region to hold the Local Infrastructure Quality Accreditation from NAVCA, Community Resource brings a proven track record of excellence to this new chapter. This accreditation serves as a hallmark of trust, ensuring that the guidance provided to local partners is not only reliable and informed but also rooted in practical, real-world impact. The National Lottery investment will allow the charity to build upon this foundation, expanding the reach of its expert services.
Alli Richardson, Head of Service at Community Resource, expressed her enthusiasm for the project, noting that the funding will allow the team to dedicate more time and encouragement to those making a difference. She highlighted that the support from National Lottery players essentially places the charity right beside local organisations every step of the way, whether they are launching a fresh community idea or managing a long-standing institution.
Ultimately, this funding represents a commitment to listening more closely to the needs of local people. By making services easier to access and responding flexibly to emerging local issues, Community Resource is poised to remain a vital partner for the volunteers and charities that keep the heart of Shropshire beating.
