Call to action for Shrewsbury Railway Station volunteers
Volunteers are being sought to help improve and maintain the appearance of Shrewsbury Railway Station – with a little tender loving care.

Organisers will be asking members of a new Friends of Shrewsbury Railway Station group to look after the decorative planters on the platforms with the prospect of possibly being recognised in the annual ‘In Bloom’ competitions.
Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley said: “I’m thrilled to announce that we are creating a new ‘Friends of Shrewsbury Railway Station’ group to bring local volunteers together to support the environment around our beautiful railway station.
“I first raised the idea at a meeting of my Shrewsbury Transport Integration Group last year, and after months of joint work with partner organisations since then, we are now full steam ahead with Transport for Wales and the 3 Counties Connected rail partnership to make it a reality.
“The group will complement the fantastic work of the station’s staff by helping to keep the station welcoming for passengers through tasks such as planting flowers and plants, and taking pride in the appearance of this important gateway to our town.”
The 3 Counties Connected community rail partnership – which promotes stations in Cheshire, Wrexham and Shropshire – and Transport for Wales, which manages Shrewsbury station, will be holding a drop-in session for anyone who would like to get involved.
It will take place at the Gateway Community Centre, a short three-minute walk from the station, postcode SY1 1NB, on Thursday, March 12, from 11am to 1pm.
Josie Rayworth, Community Rail Officer at 3 Counties Connected, said: “We’re looking to bring together local people who want to help look after the station, from planting and maintaining flowers to supporting seasonal events. It’s a great way to meet others, improve the local environment, and be part of community-led activities.”
