Newly refurbished play area opens in Sutton Farm, Shrewsbury
Families in Shrewsbury have cause for celebration this week as the refurbished play area at Tilstock Crescent officially opens its gates to the public.

Located in the heart of Sutton Farm, the revitalised space has been transformed into a welcoming and engaging environment designed to encourage imaginative outdoor play for children of all ages.
The centrepiece of the renovation is a substantial climbing frame boasting a vibrant green and yellow colour scheme. Adorned with a forest and woodland creatures theme, the structure features two slides and monkey bars, providing a stimulating setting for youngsters to explore. To ensure the facility caters to a wide developmental range, the council has installed specific multi-play units with slides tailored for children aged 3–5 and 5–10 years respectively.
Beyond the standard excitement of see-saws and swings, the park introduces a unique educational element. Interactive boards have been integrated into the landscape to spark curiosity outside the classroom. These installations cover key topics from the national curriculum, including the water cycle, weather patterns, and the wonders of space exploration, effectively blending physical activity with geography and science.
Shrewsbury Town Council has remained mindful of the local community during the development. As the site borders residential housing, the layout was carefully planned to protect the privacy of nearby neighbours. New signage has also been erected to ensure families can enjoy the facilities safely during the opening hours, which run from approximately 8:30 am until dusk each day.
Councillor Vicky Moore, ward member for Oteley & Reabrook, expressed her delight at the project’s completion, noting that the area provides a vital safe haven for children to remain active and socialise. She highlighted the importance of having such high-quality spaces within walking distance for local families to spend quality time together.
The Tilstock Crescent project is a key component of a broader initiative to modernise play provisions across the town. With a portfolio of 57 play areas, the Town Council has committed to a rolling budget that sees two sites fully replaced every year. This ongoing investment ensures that local facilities remain inclusive, modern, and capable of supporting healthier lifestyles for the next generation of Shrewsbury residents.
