Ludlow Youth Centre to reopen this July following HGV collision
Residents and families in Ludlow have welcomed news that the town’s Youth Centre is expected to reopen this July.

The facility has been out of action since 28 April 2025, when an out-of-control heavy goods vehicle crashed into the building, forcing essential community services to be relocated to temporary sites such as Helena Lane.
The anticipated handover will see the building returned to the Ludlow and Area Partnership (LCAP).
Erica Garner of LCAP expressed her delight at the summer return, noting that the group intends to work closely with Shropshire Council to transform the site into a vibrant Community and Family Hub. Once operational, the centre is slated to host a diverse array of vital services, including support groups for families affected by Autism and ADHD, bereavement counselling, mental health drop-in sessions, and a dedicated Women’s Health hub.
The breakthrough comes after Councillor Andy Boddington challenged Shropshire Council’s cabinet over the perceived lack of progress at the site. During a recent cabinet meeting, Councillor Boddington questioned the timeline for repairs and the causes behind the year-long delay. He argued that the centre could have potentially returned to use much sooner had the damaged area been sealed off—an option he claims was blocked by council officers.
In response, Councillor Andy Hall, the Portfolio Holder for Children and Education, confirmed the July projection for the completion of works. He explained that the delay was largely due to ongoing negotiations with insurance companies and loss adjusters. Because the incident involves a claim against a third party, many of the specific details remain commercially sensitive.
While the relocation of services has been a logistical challenge for the community, Councillor Hall suggested that delivering these programmes from Helena Lane had actually resulted in cost savings for the local authority. Nevertheless, the return to a dedicated central hub is viewed as a significant milestone for Ludlow’s social infrastructure, providing a permanent home for the town’s youth and vulnerable residents.
