Shaun Davies, Member of Parliament for Telford, is continuing his work to secure better rail services for the town by bringing key industry leaders together locally.

Telford MP continues work to secure better rail services for Telford

He recently welcomed senior representatives from Network Rail and West Midlands Railways to Telford for a roundtable discussion focused on the challenges facing local rail services and the improvements needed to support the town’s growth.

The meeting, held in central Telford, also brought together Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council alongside senior council officers, to ensure a joined-up approach to improving transport infrastructure.

During the discussions, Shaun highlighted the need to strengthen Telford’s rail connectivity to major hubs including London and Birmingham, address capacity pressures on services to Wolverhampton and Birmingham and explore improvements and expansion at Telford Central station.

The roundtable follows a separate meeting in March between Shaun Davies MP and Lord Hendy, the Government’s Rail Minister, where the barriers to Telford’s growth caused by current rail limitations were raised directly at ministerial level.

Shaun Davies MP said: “Telford is one of the fastest-growing towns in the UK, and we have so much to offer. However, our rail links have not kept pace with that growth and are holding us back. I’m working closely with Government, Network Rail and train operators to make sure Telford gets the connectivity it needs.”

Cllr Lee Carter, Leader of Telford & Wrekin Council, added: “It was really positive to bring together key partners to focus on the rail improvements our borough needs.

"As Telford continues to grow, having reliable, high-capacity connections to major centres like Birmingham and London is essential for our residents and businesses. We’re committed to working closely with Telford’s MP, Network Rail, train operators and the Government to ensure our infrastructure keeps pace with our ambitions and supports future investment across the borough.”

In a further step forward, Shaun Davies MP also met in Parliament last week with representatives from Wrexham, Shropshire and Midlands Railway to discuss their proposed new service linking Telford directly to London.

The proposed line would significantly enhance connectivity for businesses and commuters, helping unlock further economic growth in the town. The proposal is currently under review by the Office of Rail and Road, with Shaun confirming he will continue to champion the application at every stage.

Shaun added: “Securing a direct rail link to London would unlock even greater opportunities for our town and our businesses, this is what they tell me and it is why I will continue to push for improvements and ensure Telford’s voice is heard.”
