Shropshire Council seeks residents input to help shape new Corporate Plan
Residents across Shropshire are being urged to help define the county’s future as Shropshire Council launches a public consultation on its upcoming Corporate Plan.

The document will serve as a strategic roadmap, outlining the council’s core priorities and guiding its work with partners, stakeholders, and local communities to drive regional improvements. The new plan aims to balance ambitious goals with the practical realities of local government, ensuring that future initiatives are both deliverable and focused.
Councillor Alex Wagner, Shropshire Council’s deputy leader, said:
“Our Corporate Plan is about the things that matter most to people who live and work in Shropshire, from strong communities and a thriving local economy, to protecting our environment and supporting health and wellbeing. We want residents’ views to help us refine our priorities and make sure our ambitions are realistic, focused and deliverable within the resources and legal duties we have. Please take a few minutes to share what matters to you.”
The council has put forward six proposed priority ambitions, which were developed through a combination of data analysis, staff engagement, and the "New Direction for Shropshire" strategy presented last autumn. These pillars focus on creating a financially sustainable council with a supported workforce, as well as ensuring communities remain connected through well-maintained roads and accessible infrastructure. Additional priorities include the provision of safe, inclusive housing that meets local needs and the promotion of health and wellbeing for residents at every stage of life.
Environmental protection and the fostering of a fair, thriving economy that benefits the entire population also form central components of the proposal. The council is now seeking feedback on whether these specific ambitions align with public expectations or if critical issues have been overlooked. This engagement process is intended to ensure the final strategy is a genuine reflection of the county's collective needs.
Members of the public can participate in the consultation by completing an online survey through the council’s Get Involved portal. The deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, 22 April 2026. Following the consultation period, a draft version of the Corporate Plan is expected to be presented to the Cabinet on 6 May, before moving to a meeting of the Full Council on 14 May for final consideration and adoption.
