Organisations urged to donate old tech to restore historic transhipment warehouse
A Shropshire-based charity is looking to work with organisations to reduce, reuse and recycle old technology to fund the refurbishment of a historical site.

The Shrewsbury and Newport Canals Trust (SNCT) are working with Shropshire IT Recycling to recycle unused and redundant devices. Any income raised will directly support the refurbishment of the UK’s only surviving Transhipment Warehouse at Wappenshall Wharf. The visitor centre will pay homage to Thomas Telford and is part of a wider site which includes a canal basin, a café, a meeting place and a community garden.
Bernie Jones, Chairman of SNCT, said: “We particularly want to encourage companies, schools and any other organisations that are upgrading or replacing their laptops, desktops, mobile phones, tablets, Apple products or any other redundant technology to contact us directly.”
David Smith, Director, Shropshire IT Recycling, said: “This is a win-win situation, because normally recyclers charge to take away redundant technology. With our Charity Partnership, we will collect devices, clean the data and value the items, which will then be reused wherever possible, or responsibly recycled, helping reduce e-waste and supporting environmental goals.”
Any donations will support the restoration of a key part of Telford and Shropshire's industrial heritage while contributing to a more sustainable future.
Companies need not be concerned about data breaches, as all Items are handled by Shropshire IT Recycling Ltd, which has safe and secure onsite data destruction services and additional accreditations, including ISO 27001, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001, an EA Waste Carrier and WEEE Waste Transfer Licence.
