Telford Community Basketball CIC receives further regional recognition
Telford Community Basketball CIC has received further recognition for its community impact, winning two additional honours at the Basketball England Regional Awards.

The organisation was awarded, Community Basketball Programme of the Year 2025 and Welfare Officer of the Year 2025, awarded to Paula Ottey.
This latest achievement follows the organisation’s recognition in November 2025, when it received a local Impact Award, highlighting a pattern of continued growth and sustained contribution within the Telford community.
Founded on principles of inclusion, accessibility, and wellbeing, Telford Community Basketball CIC has developed a non-competitive, open-access model that brings together individuals from diverse backgrounds in a safe and supportive environment.
The programme has become a regular fixture within the local community, supporting participants of all abilities and placing strong emphasis on mental health, social connection, and community cohesion.
Speaking following the awards, Founder Dr Hezron Ottey said:
“We are incredibly grateful for this continued recognition. What we are building is about more than basketball; it’s about creating a space where people feel welcomed, supported, and connected.”
The recognition of Paula Ottey as Welfare Officer of the Year reflects the organisation’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding and participant wellbeing.
Since its launch, the initiative has continued to expand its reach and strengthen partnerships across the local area, contributing to wider conversations around the role of community sport in supporting health and social outcomes.
Dr Ottey added:
“To receive recognition again reinforces that this approach is making a difference. We remain committed to building on this and continuing to serve the community.”
Telford Community Basketball CIC is now exploring opportunities to further develop its provision and extend its impact across the region.
