Grange Park Primary School crowned Midlands champions and advance to national finals

Grange Park Primary School is celebrating a remarkable sporting achievement as its Year 6 NFL Flag Football team were crowned Midlands regional champions, securing their place at the national finals in Manchester on the 17th of June.
Representing the Miami Dolphins, the team delivered an exceptional performance in a thrilling final against Christ the King, who were representing the New York Jets. In a closely contested match, Grange Park emerged victorious with an 18 - 13 win, ending Christ the King’s three-year run as Midlands champions.
The match lived up to expectations, with both teams demonstrating high levels of skill and teamwork throughout. However, Grange Park’s defence rose to the occasion, producing four decisive tags to halt Christ the King’s final play and secure a well-deserved victory.
In preparation for the Midlands final, the team benefited from the support and guidance of El Edwards and Andy Batha from local flag football club, Shropshire Revolution Academy.
Their expertise and encouragement played a valuable role in the team’s success, and the school is proud to highlight the positive impact of strong community partnerships.
Sports Coach, Lee James, praised the team’s performance, saying, "I couldn’t be prouder, the team’s commitment and teamwork have been outstanding throughout the competition. They showed real composure under pressure in the final and fully deserved the win. They’ve worked incredibly hard for this moment, and it was fantastic to see Mr Green’s dedication to developing our defence over the past year really pay off in those crucial final moments of the game."
Headteacher Richard Thorpe also celebrated the achievement, adding, "This is a fantastic accomplishment for our pupils and a proud moment for the whole school community. The team have demonstrated not only sporting excellence but also great character and determination. We are all excited to see them represent Grange Park at the national finals in Manchester."
Grange Park now looks ahead to the national finals in Manchester, where they will compete against the best teams from across the country.
