SP Energy Networks is continuing work on a £750,000 upgrade of the local electricity across the Maes‑y‑Clawdd area of Oswestry.

Work continues on £750,000 electricity upgrade in Oswestry

The major project, which runs until September, involves installing 3km of new underground electricity cable, upgrading local substations and replacing ageing equipment.

The investment will increase reliability and resilience and boost network capacity to facilitate the connection of more green technologies like electric vehicle chargers, solar panels and heat pumps.

Phil Jones, SP Energy Networks District General Manager for Dee Valley and Mid Wales, said:

“This important investment will make a significant difference for our customers in Oswestry, replacing equipment that was installed more than 50 years ago and no longer meets modern energy demands as people make cleaner and greener choices about how they live their lives. This is a real win-win for homes and businesses alike.

“However, we know there will be some disruption as we progress these vital works including some lane closures and temporary traffic management, which have been agreed with Shropshire Council. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their understanding, patience and cooperation. We’re doing everything we can to keep any disruption to a minimum and to complete the works as safely and as quickly as possible.”

To minimise disruption, works will take place in phases, with rolling lane closures as the works move along the route of Maes‑y‑Clawdd (April), Maesbury Road (April-July), Glovers Meadow (May), Radford Fields (June-September), Shrewsbury Road (July-August), Oak Drive (August) and College Road (August-September).

Local teams are working to keep local residents and businesses in the affected areas informed as the works progress.
