A woman has been jailed after an elderly man was left injured following a robbery at a property in Wellington last September.

Woman jailed for Wellington robbery which left elderly man injured

Karima Burnett, aged 39, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to seven years at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Thursday, 30 April. She had pleaded guilty to the offence at an earlier hearing.

On Monday 1 September 2025, Burnett was at an address in Kingshaye Road in Wellington, where she struck a man in his seventies to the head with a plate, before stealing his wallet and keys.

The victim sustained a laceration to his head, along with extensive bruising to his face and was treated in hospital.

There was initially limited information to trace the suspect, however following further enquiries she was identified after CCTV showed her leaving the address with blood on her clothing. A bag she was seen carrying was also forensically traced to contain blood from the victim.

In October, she was arrested as she was released from HMP Foston Hall, where she had been serving a sentence for another offence.

Detective Constable Mark Smith said: “Burnett injured a man who was elderly and vulnerable and she is now serving a lengthy sentence.

“I am grateful to all who were involved in this investigation who helped to put together the pieces to identify the offender and ensure she was brought to justice.”

Burnett was also given a restraining order protecting the victim from harassment.
