Runners and walkers in Telford are being encouraged to secure their place at one of Lawley’s most popular community events as the Lawley 5K fun run returns this September.

Lawley 5K charity run fun returns – residents urged to sign up early

Following its most successful year to date in 2025, when more than 250 participants took part, registration is now open for the 2026 event, which takes place on Saturday 5 September at 1pm.

The course will once again start and finish at Lawley’s War Memorial, opposite The Grazing Cow pub, welcoming participants of all ages and abilities. Whether running, jogging, walking, or taking part in fancy dress, the event is designed to be inclusive, fun, and community focused.

Organised by Lawley Running Club, Lawley and Overdale Parish Council and Bournville Village Trust, the event has become a highlight in the local calendar, combining fitness, fun, and fundraising.

Rich Handley, Race Director of Lawley Running Club, said: “Last year we had to close registration early as we reached capacity, so this year we have increased the number of places available. But if you want to enter, it’s best to do it sooner rather than later. The run is open to everyone, with children running alongside family members and community groups taking it at a pace to suit them. Our fancy-dress competition also makes it a fantastic event to watch.”

It costs £6 to register for the Lawley 5K and each year a local charity benefits from the money raised. In 2025, charity PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide was chosen in memory of local resident Max Turton. Through the 5K race and other events organised throughout the year, nearly £4,000 was raised for PAPYRUS. This year, the Lawley 5K chosen charity is Severn Hospice, which gives specialist care and support free of charge to families across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales who are living with an incurable illness.

Mark Boylan, Chair of Lawley and Overdale Parish Council, said: “Helping the local community and its residents is what the Parish Council values most and we are pleased to be working with our partners to raise funds for Severn Hospice. We recognise all the hard work the charity undertakes to support people in their time of need".

Mike Cunneen, Estates and Stewardship Manager at Bournville Village Trust, added: “We are really pleased to be supporting the Lawley 5K again this year. It’s a fantastic community event that brings a great mix of people together and, importantly, raises money for important causes.”

Registration is now open at https://lawleyrunningclub.co.uk/lrc-events/lawley-5km-fun-run/ and costs £6. For regular updates about the 5k fun run visit https://www.facebook.com/Lawley5KFunRun.
