Fire crews called to early morning flat fire in Wem

A total of four fire appliances were dispatched to the scene, with teams arriving from both Wem and Prees stations. Operations officers also attended the incident to oversee the response and ensure the safety of the surrounding area as crews worked to contain the blaze.

Upon arrival, firefighters identified a fire located within a second-floor flat. Specialist teams equipped with breathing apparatus entered the building to tackle the seat of the fire directly.

To bring the incident under control, crews utilised a hosereel jet and a covering jet to extinguish the flames and prevent further spread to adjacent sections of the building.

Once the fire was extinguished, firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check the premises for any lingering hotspots or hidden fire pockets that could pose a risk of reignition.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was also in attendance.
