A major milestone is on the horizon for the historic Ironbridge Gorge next week as three of its heritage sites prepare to reopen after being taken over by the National Trust.

New chapter begins as Ironbridge Gorge heritage sites set to reopen

The doors to Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron alongside the popular Furnace Kitchen, open on Wednesday 20 May. The following day, Thursday 21 May, the gates of Blists Hill Victorian Town swing open just in time for the upcoming half-term school holidays.

Management at the world heritage site expressed immense gratitude and excitement regarding the return of visitors, noting that the reopenings represent a significant moment for both loyal local patrons and tourists from further afield.

Blists Hill, renowned for offering an immersive journey into the sights, sounds, and stories of Victorian life, has long been a staple of the region's cultural landscape and was previously managed by the Ironbridge Gorge Museums Trust.

While the initial reopening marks a major triumph, the National Trust have made it clear that this is merely the first phase of a broader, long-term vision for the gorge. Over the coming months, the visitor experience will continue to evolve, with plans to reintroduce traditional demonstrations and popular activities, alongside new features inspired directly by public feedback.

To ensure a smooth transition and manage initial numbers, a temporary booking system has been put in place. All visitors, including National Trust members, will be required to pre-book their admission to Blists Hill Victorian Town before arrival.

This measure is expected to be temporary whilst vital upgrades to the site's IT infrastructure are completed. Once the technical work is finalized, management hopes to return to a more flexible entry system and has promised to keep the public updated on progress.

Prospective visitors can now plan their journey and secure their timed entry slots via the National Trust website, where full details regarding opening hours and facilities are available.
