Motorists are facing delays this morning following a serious road traffic collision that has forced the closure of a section of the M54 eastbound.

Travel disruption as collision closes M54 eastbound between Junctions 3 and 2

The incident, which occurred between Junction 3 for Albrighton and Junction 2 for Wolverhampton, involved a single vehicle leaving the carriageway.

West Mercia Police are currently leading the response at the scene, supported by National Highways Traffic Officers.

Due to the severity of the collision, authorities have confirmed that the stretch of motorway is expected to remain closed for several hours while specialist teams conduct a formal collision investigation.

A strategic diversion has been implemented to manage the build-up of traffic. Road users travelling eastbound are being instructed to follow the solid square diversion symbol displayed on local road signs. Drivers should exit the M54 at Junction 3 and proceed north along the A41, before turning east onto the A5. From there, motorists are advised to head south on the A449, which will lead them back to the M54 at Junction 2.

National Highways has urged travellers to check their routes before setting off and to allow considerable extra time for their journeys. Those whose planned travel is impacted by the closure are encouraged to consider re-routing or delaying their departure until the investigation is complete and the incident has been cleared.

Emergency services have not yet released details regarding any casualties.
