A 37-year-old man has been sentenced for assaulting his ex-partner, which left her with a perforated eardrum.

Telford man sentenced for domestic abuse offences

Tony Price, of Church Road in Dawley, Telford, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in relation to offences from 2018.

On Friday, 22 May, Price appeared at Shrewsbury Crown Court where he was handed a two-year custodial sentence suspended for two years, and ordered to carry out 300 hours of unpaid work.

The court heard how Price assaulted his ex-partner, striking her to the back of the head with force causing her to suffer a perforated ear drum.

Two months later, Price forced entry into the victim’s home address and assaulted her leaving her with bruising to her body.

Price was later charged with two counts of actual bodily harm. A further charge of coercive and controlling behaviour was ordered to lie on file.

A five-year restraining order was also given to Price, preventing him from contacting the victim, and he was also ordered to pay £1,000 in compensation.

Detective Sergeant Geoff Anslow, from the force's Public Protection Unit, said: “Price subjected his victim to ferocious assaults behind closed doors, leaving her with bodily injuries including bruising, grab marks and a perforated ear drum.

"Price lied during his police interviews in the face of what appeared to be overwhelming evidence. I am pleased that he has now finally admitted his guilt and that he has been convicted accordingly.

"I would like to commend the victim for her resilience and patience as the matter made its way through the criminal justice system, and hope that she can now begin to rebuild her life having escaped from this abusive relationship.”
