A Bristol woman has been warned she faces a potential prison sentence after admitting she was in charge of an out-of-control XL bully dog that killed her teenage cousin from Shrewsbury.

XL bully owner pleads guilty after dog killed her teenage cousin from Shropshire

Kelcie Reed, 24, pleaded guilty to a charge of being in charge of a dog dangerously out of control, causing injury resulting in death, during a brief appearance at Bristol Crown Court this morning, May 27.

The court heard that the XL bully fatally injured 19-year-old Morgan Dorsett, who was from Shrewsbury, inside a flat in Cobhorn Drive, Withywood, Bristol, on 26 February last year.

Reed, who lives in Barrowmead Road, Lawrence Weston, Bristol, spoke only to enter her guilty plea during the short hearing.

Following her admission, Judge Martin Picton ordered the preparation of a pre-sentence report ahead of the sentencing hearing, which has been scheduled for 9 July.

Reed was released on bail until that date, though the judge made it clear that all sentencing options, including immediate custody, remain open.

The dog was put to sleep following the incident.
