Albrighton High Street set for resurfacing works
A major resurfacing scheme is set to bring daytime closures to Albrighton High Street next month, Shropshire Council has confirmed.

The essential maintenance works, which aim to improve long-term road conditions, are scheduled to run from Monday, 15 June until Tuesday, 23 June 2026.
To minimise disruption during peak travel hours, crews will operate exclusively on weekdays between 9.30 am and 4 pm. The road will be completely closed to through-traffic during these hours, with a fully signed diversion route put in place. Highways officials have noted that motorists may be able to choose alternative routes depending on their specific vehicle type.
Despite the closures, council highways staff have confirmed that access will be strictly maintained for emergency vehicles on blue-light calls. Pedestrians, equestrians, and cyclists who dismount will also be permitted to pass through the zone. Local residents and business owners located within the closure boundaries will be granted access to their properties, though officials warn this will only be permitted when it is entirely safe to do so.
To ensure the machinery can operate efficiently, residents and visitors are being urged to find alternative parking, as vehicles must not be parked on the High Street while work is actively in progress.
The resurfacing works will be carried out by Kier on behalf of Shropshire Council. The process involves stripping the old road texture and laying a fresh layer of asphalt using a specialised paving machine, which is then compacted to create a smooth, durable surface.
Local authority leaders emphasise that this structural intervention is vital for preventing future deterioration and drastically reducing the long-term recurrence of potholes.
The Albrighton upgrade is part of a much larger county-wide infrastructure push by Shropshire Council this year, which will see more than 90 stretches of road completely resurfaced and a further 70 treated with surface dressing.
As with all outdoor engineering projects, the scheduled works remain highly dependent on favorable weather conditions and are subject to change if unforeseen complications arise.
