Police appeal continues following sexual assault in Oakengates

Between 3.30 pm and 4 pm on Thursday, 28 May, a 19-year-old woman was sexually assaulted by an unknown man on the path between the underpass near Laburnum Road and Stafford Road in Oakengates.

The victim was able to fight the man off, before he fled the scene in the direction of Trench.

Two men, aged 23 and 33, have since been arrested in connection with the incident, and have been released on police bail as enquires continue.

Detective Inspector Danielle Logan said: "We understand an incident of this nature can cause alarm within the local community, but I want to reassure the public we are continuing with our enquiries.

"Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident, and both have been released on bail while we continue with this investigation. I would also ask the public not to speculate, and if anyone has any information to please contact police immediately.

"Officers are continuing to carry out patrols in the area, and ask anyone who have any information that may help with enquiries to speak to them. The victim is also being supported by specially trained officers."

If you have any information which may help with the investigation, please call 01952 214904 or email richard.cowley@westmercia.police.uk quoting incident 451i of May 28, 2026.

Alternatively, information can be passed to Crimestoppers anonymously by calling 0800 555 111 or visiting crimestoppers-uk.org.
