Shrewsbury MP celebrates annual Fish and Chip Day
Britain’s most famous national dish is being celebrated today with many of Shropshire’s popular chip shops marking the annual Fish and Chip Day.

Today, June 5, serves to unite all those in the industry, recognising the importance of the food sector they are a part of, while also providing the perfect excuse for all those old puns – ‘there’s a plaice for us’, and ‘cod you pass the salt please?’
“National Fish and Chip Day is now entering its second decade and has become a key moment in the industry calendar,” says Shrewsbury MP Julia Buckley.
“My family always make a point of joining in the celebrations with a fish and chip supper – not that an excuse is needed to enjoy a tasty dish that has such an enduring place in British life.
“It was such a delight to meet Harwinder Singh and Gagandeep Kaur who run the excellent fish and chip shop, Fry Days, on Castle Foregate, Shrewsbury. They’re charming people.
“Of course, as with all good chip shops, there’s always that irresistible aroma that draws you in. Fry Days is one of the many fine chip shops in our town and across Shropshire.”
Harwinda said: “I’m happy to say that this is a successful family business which has been going for three and half years now in Castle Foregate. It’s our first business and I’m pleased to say it’s doing fine.”
Mrs Buckley added: “I’ve no doubt lots of people are going to be enjoying fish and chips this week. And it’s really great to see so many of our chippies thriving.”
