On 20th October, prolific author John Butterworth, will be speaking to members of Shrewsbury Business Chamber and their guests at the Greenhous Meadow Stadium about his latest book published earlier this year.

John Butterworth’s book is the story of the historic Lion Hotel, Shrewsbury, told through the many famous guests who have stayed there, including King William IV, Charles Dickens, Charles Darwin, Benjamin Disraeli and in more modern times the Beatles, Morecambe and Wise, Cliff Richard and many others.

Gerald Dickens, the great, great grandson of the Victorian writer Charles, who has written the foreword to Four Centuries at the Lion Hotel, Shrewsbury, launched the book in July.

John answers three questions through the book when he speaks at the event:

1. Is politics more corrupt today?
2. Has Shrewsbury always been standing Still-sbury?
3. Did famous people come to Shrewsbury in the past?

John Butterworth has spoken to many groups, which have included Rotary Clubs, Probus Clubs, the Mayor’s Shrewsbury Flower Show Lunch, the Shropshire Society and many women’s groups.

Peter Bettis, President of Shrewsbury Business Chamber said: “This evening promises to be most informative and entertaining, so I would welcome the business community to join Shrewsbury Business Chamber members and their guests at 6pm on 20th October.

“The meeting is for members of the business community only, and although it is admission-free booking is essential (for catering purposes for the free buffet) by contacting Val Povall, SBC Secretary on (01939) 236001 or by Email to: valpovall@trebles.free-online.co.uk”
