Is your company insured against cyber crime?
Companies who do not take care with their computer systems are easy prey for online criminals.
And even though you think you’re protected by a current insurance policy, traditional cover may not include losses incurred through your company’s network.
So Dave Williams, from Henshalls Insurance Brokers in Newport and Shrewsbury, has called on business owners to think about taking out specialist cyber cover to protect the future of their company.
“Cyber risks are not just something for companies doing transactions over the internet to worry about either – any company relying on computer networks, digital information or the internet faces the same difficulties.
“Effectively that means just about every size of business in the world today is a potential target.
“The threat level is serious and growing, and it’s important that small businesses take it seriously and protect themselves from hackers, privacy invasion, viruses and network disruptions.”
Dave said companies must educate their staff and ensure that all passwords are complex and at least eight digits. The passwords should also be changed regularly and all mobile devices should be password-protected.
“Keep your virus/malware software up-to-date and ensure regular scans by your software are scheduled and completed.
“Remember to back up your systems regularly on remote devices, as this means if your data is attacked, you can get access to your client records easily and be up and running again quickly.
“If you’re considering specialist cyber liability insurance cover, the more pro-active you are in protecting your business – and in proving this to your insurers – the easier it will be to find the most competitive quotes and range of cover.
“Don’t ignore the risk of online crime because it could threaten the future of your entire business, no matter how large your company may be.”
