Shropshire trades urged to discover business benefits of Green Deal
Plumbers and electricians in Shropshire are being urged to consider business opportunities offered by the new Government scheme which will see householders able to make their homes energy efficient without the need to pay upfront.

The Green Deal allows property owners, both domestic and commercial, to make energy saving upgrades such as renewable energy boiler installations, double glazing, insulation and heating controls.
Tradespeople are now being invited to an event in Ludlow which will explore how sole-traders and companies can get involved with the flagship energy programme.
The Marches Environmental Technologies Network is holding a conference on November 1 at Ludlow Racecourse, with a special session focusing on the Green Deal with speakers from energy companies, local authorities and businesses already involved in the energy efficiency sector.
Project manager at metnet, Patricia Head, said: “The Green Deal offers tradespeople widespread business opportunities as they can offer energy improvements to properties at no upfront cost to their customers.
“The programme will not only have an important environmental impact, but it should also encourage growth in the environmental sector with business opportunities particularly for tradespeople like plumbers, electricians, heating engineers and companies offering environmental consultancy, renewables, energy efficiency lighting and insulation.
“Our Green Deal update, which will also include a question and answer session, will help delegates to understand how the programme works, detail local plans for the scheme and provide advice on how they could be employed by or contracted to a Green Deal Provider.
“We hope to equip conference delegates with not only a practical guide as to how they can become involved but also outline the opportunities for them to benefit – both in terms of work generation from new enquiries but also offering their existing customer base access to the benefits of the Green Deal.”
The metnet conference will also give delegates a chance to network, and learn how to extend and improve their business contacts thanks to a keynote presentation with networking guru and business coach, Kevin Parr.
Workshops available at the free to attend conference include an update on legislation for waste companies and a session on the GrowthAccelerator programme which works with companies to help them expand and grow their operations.
Patricia added: “We're also delighted to welcome Dr Robin Mannings, a futurologist, who will be speaking about what is on the horizon for the environmental sector and the impacts these innovations and changes can have on the businesses and people that work within it.”
