Ellerker Opticians, a long-standing independent practice in Shrewsbury, today announced a series of major clinical achievements within its team.

Shrewsbury’s Ellerker Opticians enhances clinical capabilities with key staff qualifications

Following a commitment to advanced professional development, the practice has significantly expanded its diagnostic and treatment capabilities, offering local patients faster and more accessible specialist eye care.

Since its establishment in 1998, Ellerker Opticians has balanced high-street convenience with high-standard clinical care. This latest milestone focuses on upskilling their clinical team, enabling the practice to manage complex eye conditions directly in-house and reducing the strain on local NHS resources.

Optometrist Ruby Cullen has completed her final professional exams and officially joins the team as a permanent Resident Optometrist.

Practice Director Iain Milne has achieved the Professional Certificate in Glaucoma. This adds to his existing Medical Retina qualification and Independent Prescriber status, allowing the direct management of a broader range of eye conditions.

Optometrist Thomas Partridge has also achieved Independent Prescriber status to add to his Medical Retina qualification, giving him the ability to treat various common eye conditions.

These developments enable Ellerker Opticians to offer enhanced services, including specialised Glaucoma Refinement, Urgent Eye Care, and Cataract care, directly within the community.

Iain Milne, Director at Ellerker Opticians, said: “Independent optometry has always been about more than just sight tests.

“We’re incredibly proud of Ruby, Thomas, and the whole team for the commitment they’ve shown. We want to keep investing not just in equipment, but in expertise, so that our patients can feel confident in the level of care they receive from a team with the knowledge to manage their eye health now and into the future.”

By prioritising continuous education, Ellerker Opticians continues to strengthen its position as a leading provider of independent eye care in Shrewsbury, ensuring patients can access high-level clinical support close to home.
