Police in Shropshire are today continuing to question two men in connection with two separate murder investigations in the county.

Two continue to be held in connection with Shropshire murders

A man in his 50s remains in police custody as police continue to investigate the murder of a woman in a village near Shrewsbury.

Officers were called to an address in Caradoc View, Hanwood on Tuesday evening, following reports of concern for the occupant. On entering the property, a woman in her 50s was found deceased.

A murder investigation was launched and, following a number of initial enquiries, a man was arrested at an address in Shrewsbury in the early hours of yesterday.

The scene in Hanwood remains cordoned off while forensic examination of the scene takes place.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Jamieson, who is leading the investigation, said enquiries were continuing and renewed an appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

“We have already interviewed a number of witnesses but I am still keen to hear from anyone else who might have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Caradoc View area between about 9am and 3pm on Tuesday,” he said.

“A post mortem examination is due to take place today in an attempt to establish a cause of death.

“The man arrested remains in police custody today. Formal identification of the victim has yet to be carried out.”

Police are also continuing to question a man on suspicion of murder following the death of a woman in Oswestry.

Officers were called to an address in Orchard Street just after 7pm on Tuesday, following reports of a serious incident.

A man in his 50s was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detective Chief Inspector Steve Eccleston, who is leading the inquiry, said a post mortem examination had been carried out yesterday but police were not able to release any further details at this stage.

“The suspect remains in police custody at this time, where he continues to be interviewed in connection with the victim’s death,” he said.

“Anyone who might have seen or heard any suspicious activity in the Orchard Street area during Tuesday afternoon and into the evening is asked to contact police on 0300 333 3000.”

The Coroner for Mid and North Shropshire, Mr John Ellery, has been informed and an inquest will be opened in due course.
