Police investigate possible wallet theft in Newport
Police officers are investigating following a possible wallet theft on the High Street in Newport.

At around 5pm on Monday, the victim – a 71-year-old man – was walking past B & M Bargains when an unknown individual bumped into him quite hard from behind. The victim did not get chance to see who’d bumped into him.
A short time later the victim discovered that his brown leather wallet was missing from the rear pocket in his trousers and he then realised that it may have been taken when the unknown individual bumped into him.
A police spokesman said:
“The stolen wallet contained various personal documents such as the man’s driving licence and also around £60 in cash. Although at this stage the man cannot be absolutely certain that it was taken from his pocket without him realising, this does seem likely to be the case.
“Officers are currently studying CCTV footage from the High Street in Newport to see whether this will help shed some light on how the victim’s wallet was taken.
“Police would like to take this opportunity to remind local people to be on their guard against this type of crime whenever they are out and about and ensure that personal belongings are kept in a safe place where it’s hard for a thief to get at.
“It only takes a split second for an opportunist thief to strike and therefore it is vital that people are aware of their personal security at all times and make it as difficult as possible for those individuals looking to commit crime.
“Anyone who believes they may have information about this theft is asked to call police in Telford on 0300 333 3000. Alternatively, please remember that Crimestoppers can also be called anonymously on 0800 555 111 if you have information you’d like to pass on without identifying yourself.”
