Woodlands Primary pupils heads for fashionable French resort
Pupils from a Telford primary school are headed for a long weekend in the northern French coastal town of Le Touquet to help them practice their language skills.
The group of 38 pupils from Woodlands Primary School in Woodside left this morning by coach and will be sailing from Dover to Calais before a short drive to Le Touquet.
The trip will include shopping in Le Touquet itself, a visit to a local chocolate factory and a tour of a patisserie to see how croissants and pain au chocolat are made.
The pupils, all aged nine to 11, will be honing their linguistic skills during the trip as well as gaining a first hand experience of French culture.
They will also be using the famous Le Touquet beach for recreational games before returning back to Telford on Monday.
Carla Whelan, deputy head of Woodlands Primary, said: “We’ve had French in the curriculum for a number of years and have been looking for ways of giving our children the opportunity to expand their French skills by organising a trip to experience this in a real life setting.
“The party will be staying at the PGL Youth Centre in Le Touquet and all the children are very excited about the trip.
“We’ve got an exciting itinerary lined up, which is educational as well as fun for all the pupils.”
Le Touquet has a reputation as one of the most elegant holiday resorts in northern France and is often frequented by rich Parisians for weekends away. It is also extremely popular among lovers of architecture that is reminiscent of the Roaring Twenties.
