Shropshire Horticultural Society has announced the appointment of the third generation member of the Percy Thrower family to its Committee.

Shropshire Horticultural Society Committee Flourishes with New Recruit from Gardening Dynasty

Leanne Garvey, granddaughter of the late television personality and daughter of Ann and Aubrey Kirkham, has become a member of the Society’s General Committee, and been appointed to serve on the Floral and Catering sub-committees, where she will play an active role in these areas of the show.

Leanne’s father Aubrey Kirkham, who is a former chairman of the Shropshire Horticultural Society, said:

“Our family has been involved with the Shropshire Horticultural Society Committee for many years and Leanne’s appointment is a great tribute to the role Percy played in making the annual Shrewsbury Flower Show the success it is today.”

Percy Thrower was the Flower Show's horticultural adviser for more than 40 years, as well as a former chairman and award-winning exhibitor.

Leanne Garvey said: “Gardening is in my blood. I have very fond memories of my mother Ann, my two aunties and grandfather winning awards for their exhibits at the Shrewsbury Flower Show and my mother winning Best in Show with Percy Thrower’s Garden & Leisure. I’m very much looking forward to being actively involved in the Society and of course the Shrewsbury Flower Show.”

33 year old mother of two Leanne lives in Four Crosses and is now the youngest member of the Committee. She is a qualified Funeral Director and works with her father at Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors Ltd.

The 2011 Shrewsbury Flower Show will take place on 12 and 13 August and will feature floral displays, show jumping, medieval jousting, motorcycle displays, music, fireworks and special guest appearances from celebrity chef, Gino D'Acampo and TV gardener, Chris Beardshaw.
