Plans for new cancer and haematology centre given the go-ahead
Plans to build a new multi-million pound Cancer and Haematology Centre at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will start this summer.

The Board of The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has now approved the business case for the development, which gives the scheme the final go ahead after Shropshire Council granted the application for planning permission at the end of June.
The £5 million centre is set to benefit from major refurbishment and extension that will cater for about 25,000 appointments each year. This will include a new reception area, outpatient unit for haematology and oncology patients and a day unit for chemotherapy and head and neck cancer patients.
Adrian Osborne, Head of Communications and Business Development at the Trust, said: “We are pleased that work on the new Cancer and Haematology Centre will be starting later this summer. This is an exciting development and we are grateful to everyone who has helped us as it will benefit people from across Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales.”
The development has been partly funded by almost £5 million in donations from the Lingen Davies Cancer Centre Appeal, The Shropshire Blood Transfusion Trust and other charities.
Plans for the new centre have been created by architects Aedas, who consulted with clinical staff and service users to help create their designs.
The Trust has also invited people to take part in two competitions to come up with a name for the new centre and design artwork to be displayed inside. More details about these competitions can be found on the Trust’s website at: www.sath.nhs.uk/media
