Thieves who broke into a north Shropshire home overnight have taken a number of taxidermy preserved animals. They stole two wall-mounted animal heads and several stuffed birds and mammals from glass cases.

The stolen property includes the heads of a reindeer, an animal similar to an African wildebeest and a stuffed weasel, duck and owl.

The burglary happened at a home in the Wem area between 2am and 7am today.

Wem police have appealed for information, in particular, from anyone offered such unusual items for sale.

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said: "The stolen goods are collectors' items but do not have any great monetary value. However, they do have considerable sentimental value to their owner.

"Anyone offered such preserved animal artefacts in suspicious circumstances should contact Wem police station on 0300 333 3000. Information can also be given to the anonymous Crimestoppers number, 0800 555 111.
